The Cleveland Browns and defensive end Myles Garrett have reportedly reached an agreement on a record-setting contract extension weeks after his public trade request, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Sunday (March 9).

"From trade to truce and beyond: the Browns and Myles Garrett reached agreement today on a record contract extension that averages $40 million per year and includes $123.5 million in guaranteed money and now makes him the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history, sources tell ESPN. Garrett’s agent, Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports and Browns GM Andrew Berry finalized the deal today," Schefter wrote on his X account. "The contract also includes a no-trade clause and ties Garrett to the Browns through the 2030 season. The path from Cleveland to Canton is back on as Garrett continues his pursuit of a championship for the team that drafted No. 1 overall in 2017."

Last week, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that Garrett requested a meeting with team owner Jimmy Haslam, who declined to speak amid his trade request. Garrett publicly requested a trade in a statement re-shared by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport on February 3.

"As a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl -- and that goal fuels me today more than ever," Garrett said. "My love for the community of Northeast Ohio and the incredible fanbase of the Cleveland Browns has made this one of the toughest decisions of my life. These past eight years have shaped me into the man that I am today.

"While I've loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won't allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl.

"With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns."

Rapoport confirmed that the Browns were made aware of Garrett's trade request prior to the statement being shared.

"Cleveland has been made aware of Myles Garrett’s trade request. The team’s stance has not changed. Teams, of course, will call on a superstar in his prime," he wrote on his X account.

Garrett was selected by the Browns at No. 1 overall int he 2017 NFL Draft and has gone on to be one of the best pass rushers in the NFL during his first eight seasons. The former Texas A&M standout is a four-time First-team All-Pro, a two-time Second-team All-Pro and a six-time Pro Bowler, having won NFL Defensive Player of the Year for the first time in his career last February.

Garrett has recorded double-digit sacks during each of the last seven seasons, which included 14 sacks in 2024, matching the same total from the previous season.
