A farmer in Wisconsin named Mike Schmit grew a 2,520-pound pumpkin, which would've been the heaviest grown in the country this year. It also would've earned him a prize of more than $20,000. But it wasdisqualifieddue to an imperfection.
Mike says there was a tiny, fingernail-sized crack that developed due to internal pressure from the pumpkin's large size and the awkward way it was growing. But he isn't upset. He said, quote, "It happens. There's no crying in pumpkin growing."
